The International Summer School (ISS) New Delhi is a six-week academic, professional and cultural program convened by the Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia and the Esya Centre. It combines a four-week academic program with an optional two-week internship and service-learning extension.
Students explore contemporary India through courses on sustainability, development, innovation and technology, engage with experts, and take part in cultural activities in the capital. Participants who opt for the two-week extension apply what they have learned through internship and service-learning opportunities, adding practical experience to their academic and cultural program.
Rooted in Gandhian ideas of self-reliance, truth and welfare for all, ISS brings together participants from around the world to learn about India and the social, political and economic issues shaping societies today.

LEARN
The Course Modules are thoughtfully designed to emphasize the Global South and Indian perspectives, offering deep insights into understanding Sustainability, Growth & Development and valuable lessons on Innovation, Technology & the Future of Work.
INTERN
The Internship & Service Learning opportunity lets you intern or volunteer with organisations, including tech firms, community-based social enterprises, retail brands, legal services and more, to gain hands-on learning experience beyond the classroom.
HOLISTIC CURRICULUM
The program follows a multidisciplinary exploration of India based on Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of Swaraj (self-reliance), Satyagraha (commitment to truth), and Sarvodaya (welfare for all).
ENGAGE
Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to engage with distinguished experts and thought leaders from academic, civil society, business and government on various topics and issues shaping contemporary India.
IMMERSE
Events that showcase India’s cultural heritage as well as excursions to sites of touristic importance have been scheduled throughout the six-week program. Visits to heritage sites in Delhi and to the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra will be among the many highlights of the program.
